PFT’s Week 16 2022 NFL awards

The 16th week of the 2022 season included most games on Christmas Eve and a first-ever treble on Christmas. There were some exciting finishes and come-from-behind wins, despite eight Saturday games played in frigid temperatures.

Greg Joseph kicked a 61-yard field goal as time expired to win 27-24 in Minnesota. We have no special-teams category, thus he doesn’t win.

Perhaps next year. Here are the weekly awards we’ve given all season.

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is offensive player of the week.

They headed to Cincinnati. They likely regret it.

Burrow completed 28 passes in the first half and 40 for the game, five shy of the record.

The performance came when his side was on the ropes against one of the best defensive minds ever. Burrow may have helped the Patriots.

375 yards and 3 TDs. Second half was tighter than expected. Without Burrow, the Bengals might not have won 11 games.

Other finalists: Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson, Panthers RB D’Onta Foreman, Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard, Bengals WR Tee Higgins, Vikings TE T.J. Hockenson, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb, Rams RB Cam Akers, Rams QB Baker Mayfield, Rams TE Tyler Higbee, Eagles WR DeVonta Smith, Charger

Nick Bosa of the 49ers is DPOY.

Bosa is incredible. Disruptive, productive, and already the defensive player of the year.

In Sunday’s triumph over the Commanders, Bosa recorded two sacks, two TFLs, and four QB hits.

Bosa will determine 49ers’ success. He can take them to the mountaintop.

Chris Jones, Danielle Hunter, Vonn Bell, Brian Burns, Josh Sweat, and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo were also finalists.

Kenny Pickett was named rookie of the week.

Pickett led the game-winning drive and made the game-winning throw against the Raiders as the Steelers honored the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception and retired Franco Harris’ number.

The rookie helped the Steelers win a must-win game. PFT’s Week NFL awards.

Pickett’s future is uncertain, but he’s done enough to inspire hope. The Steelers may finish above.500.

49ers QB Brock Purdy, Patriots DB Marcus Jones, Commanders WR Jahan Dotson, Steelers WR George Pickens, Rams CB Cobie Durant, Cowboys CB DaRon Bland.

Steve Wilks is this week’s coach.

David Tepper’s choice may be simpler than he thinks.

Wilks, who was in a no-win position with the Cardinals in 2018, has done well since Matt Rhule’s firing. Wilks and the Panthers made one of the league’s hottest teams appear ordinary on Saturday.

Wilks isn’t your average coach. Tepper appears obsessed with chasing a big name, but he already has the proper man.

Tepper suggested Wilks can coach after 2022 if he does a “amazing” job. Wilks’ efforts look more impressive with each win. PFT’s Week NFL awards .

Doug Pederson, Sean McVay, Kevin O’Connell, Dennis Allen, and Lovie Smith were also finalists.

Patrick Mahomes’ handstand touchdown run.

NFL’s top QB continues surprising.

On Saturday against the Seahawks, Mahomes scrambled, turned on the jets, dove for the end zone, and touched the ball against the pylon.

It was hazardous. If he had lost his grasp, the Seahawks would have had a touchback.

Mahomes makes the exceptional look regular, so nothing he accomplishes surprises anyone. It’s entertaining to watch.

Other finalists: Vikings kicker Greg Joseph’s 61-yard field goal, Kenny Pickett’s game-winning touchdown pass to George Pickens, Patriots receiver Jakobi Meyers’ 48-yard touchdown catch, 49ers receiver Ray-Ray McCloud’s 71-yard touchdown run, Bengals defensive back Vonn Bell’s forced fumble by Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson, Cowboys receiver T.Y. Hilton’s third-and-30 catch, Vikings
