Career
At age 7, he began to play. His mother, Alina Venero, served as his initial trainer. On May 24, 2008, in Düsseldorf, Wilfredo León Venero made his debut for the Cuban national team at the age of 14 years and 10 months. [3] In the 2009 World League, he was named Best Receiver. He took home a silver medal on July 31, 2009, from the World U21 Championship (after losing the final against Brazil). Leon helped the Cuban national team win the NORCECA Championship in 2009 (as well as three individual accolades), and they did it again in 2011. Cuba earned a silver medal at the 2010 World Championship despite losing to Brazil in the championship match. He was the national team’s youngest captain (he was 17).
