Mike trout is a professional baseball player who plays for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Major League Baseball (MLB). Trout was drafted first overall by the Angels in the 2003 amateur draft. Trout has won five American League (AL) MVP Awards, four Silver Slugger Awards, and three Gold Glove Awards. He has also won three batting titles, and was named to 12 All-Star teams.

Trout was born on August 7, 1991, in Vineland, New Jersey to Jeff and Debbie (Busonick) Trout.

He has two older siblings, Teal and Tyler. His father, Jeff, played baseball at the University of Delaware and was drafted in the fifth round as a second baseman by the Minnesota Twins in 1983.

Jeff played four years of minor league baseball before his career was cut short due to a torn plantar fascia and knee injuries. Trout grew up a Philadelphia Phillies fan and marched in their World Series parade in 2008.

Amateur career

Trout went to Millville Senior High School in Millville, New Jersey, and played baseball and basketball there, earning five letters (three in baseball and two in basketball).The Thunderbolts advanced to the state playoffs before falling to Cherry Hill High School East. He began his career as a pitcher and shortstop before being moved to the outfield during his senior year. Prior to the 2009 MLB Draft, Trout had committed to play baseball at East Carolina University. Millville had intended to retire Trout’s jersey number, but began awarding it to the team captain in 2012.

The Angels selected Trout with the 25th overall pick in the 2009. MLB draft as compensation from the New York Yankees for signing Mark Teixeira. He began his professional career in 2009 with the Arizona Angels of the rookie-level Arizona League (AZL), hitting.360 with a.418 OBP and.506 SLG in 187 plate appearances over 39 games, one home run, 25 RBIs, and 13 steals. Trout was promoted to center field by the Los Angeles Angels on July 8, 2011, to replace the injured Peter Bourjos. In his next game, Trout recorded his first career major league hit. An infield single in the bottom of the third inning against Seattle Mariners pitcher Michael Pineda. On July 24, he hit his first major league home run against Baltimore Orioles pitcher Mark Worrell. Trout was demoted to Double-A Arkansas on August 1, 2011, after hitting.163 with one home run and six runs batted in 12 Angels starts.

Trout has been dubbed “Prince Fish,” “God’s Gift,” “Millville Miracle,” and “King Fish 2.0,” after retired Angel Tim Salmon. After a vandal edited his Wikipedia article, he adopted the nickname “Millville Meteor.”
