Ireland leads Afghanistan a 2-0 lead over Afghanistan in the best-of-five T20 series with a five-wicket triumph in Belfast on Thursday, thanks to George Dockrell’s 25 not out.
After winning the toss, Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi elected to bat first, but the visitors left themselves too much to do with the ball, scoring 122-8 in 20 overs.
Hashmatullah Shahidi led the way with 36 runs, while Josh Little, Mark Adair, Curtis Campher, and Gareth Delany each claimed two wickets.
Prior to the series opener on Tuesday, Ireland had lost eight consecutive T20 internationals, but seemed destined to sail home with to captain Andy Balbirnie’s 46. Ireland leads Afghanistan
The loss of three wickets for 14 runs, though, offered Afghanistan hope until Dockrell’s 19-ball cameo.
Ireland crossed the line with an extra over to spare.
When the two teams play again on Friday in Northern Ireland’s capital, the hosts have a chance to win the series.
