Faf du Plessis Participates With Johannesburg Super Kings In CSA T20 Tournament

Faf du Plessis Participates

The Johannesburg Super Kings will be led by Faf du Plessis in the CSA T20 event, which starts in 2019. Du Plessis, a former captain of South Africa, has been selected by the team as one of its five direct signings for US$375,000.

The IPL team’s parent company, Chennai Super Kings Sports Limited, which also controls the franchise, paid $400,000 for Moeen Ali’s services.

In two stints with the Chennai Super Kings—from 2011 to 2015 and again from 2018 to 2021—Du Plessis played in 100 games. In 2021, Moeen also joined the Chennai Super Kings.

Stephen Fleming will lead the franchise as its head coach

A Sri Lankan offspinner named Maheesh Theekshana ($200,000) has transferred from Chennai 2022 to the Johannesburg franchise. Romario Shepherd, a versatile player from the West Indies, cost $175,000. Gerald Coetzee, a quick bowler from South Africa, cost $50,000.

A few members of the coaching staff are also previous members of the Chennai Super Kings, in addition to the three players du Plessis, Moeen, and Theekshana. In Johannesburg, Stephen Fleming will also serve as the head coach, with Eric Simons serving as his assistant.

The team is reportedly close to recruiting former South African all-rounder Albie Morkel as a coach, according to ESPNcricinfo. From 2008 through 2013, Morkel played with the Chennai Super Kings, participating in their back-to-back IPL championships in 2010 and 2011. A few members of the coaching staff are also previous members of the Chennai Super Kings, in addition to the three players du Plessis, Moeen, and Theekshana. In Johannesburg, Stephen Fleming will also serve as the head coach, with Eric Simons serving as his assistant.

Direct signings from a list of 30 illustrious names that CSA recently finalized are permitted for the six organizations.

A roster of 17 players is permitted for each of the six teams. Franchises have started to reveal their direct purchases, but an auction will be held on September 20 to select the final 12 players.
