Despite the Merseyside club’s difficult start to the season, Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne expects Liverpool to return to their best when the two teams meet in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool, last season’s runners-up, have only two wins and are tenth in the table after eight games, 13 points behind City in second.

“I expect Liverpool to be the best it can be.” Obviously, they lost some points, but they’re still Liverpool, and I expect them to be good, that’s the only way I see it,” said De Bruyne, who has nine assists this season.

“I enjoy big games and good atmospheres.” It’s a game like any other, and it’s obviously difficult to play.

“I enjoy big games and good atmospheres.” It’s a game like any other, and while it’s always difficult to play away at a top-six team, I believe we’ve done well in recent years.”

Last season, both league games between the teams ended 2-2, with City winning the title by one point over Liverpool.

“They’re a more up-and-down team, and we’re a team that has more control of the game, so if you can control that style of play, maybe you have a better chance,” De Bruyne added.

City advanced to the last 16 of the Champions League after a 0-0 draw at FC Copenhagen on Tuesday. Liverpool, who are second in Group A, will play Rangers in Scotland later on Wednesday.
